Childproofing!

They say you should childproof before your child is mobile because it happens very quickly. "They" are right.

1st haircut

Mike and I were talking and I was telling that once Mikey turns one, there will be less and less firsts. For a full year it was his first Easter, first Fourth of July, first roadtrip, first planetrip (don't remind me) and on and on. There will still be more firsts but there were a lot of special ones. For now, here's his first hair cut.

Before

After

After was taken much after! We walked out of Floyd's a little shaken. As if we had been in a war. Hadn't we though? Mikey started off great and then it ended with a total meltdown. She was able to even up his hair and the Trump combover is gone!

The Big 1

Mikey had a busy birthday. Before any fun could be had, Mikey had his one year checkup with our favorite Doctor. There were some tears as always but he recovered quickly.

It was then off to meet the family for dinner at Hooter's. Exciting! I know.

I could hate on these girls but they were very cute and very sweet to my baby. I think Dad wanted in on the picture too!

It was a great dinner. Thanks to everyone that came! Next up will be his birthday party!

Happy Birthday Mikey Love!

Here's a letter from me on your very first birthday.

Dear Michael Jr. (aka Mikey, Papa and Baby Love),

One year ago you came into our lives and it’s never been the same since. I’m starting to tear up just thinking about what this past year has been like. Everyone always told me that the love you feel for your child is amazing but I didn’t know it would be like this. You had me and Daddy worried when you decided you wanted to be born at 35 weeks but you were absolutely perfect and just ready to meet us. From the day you were born you’ve taught me that I can’t always plan for everything and that I need to be open to the unknown and unexpected. It’s a lesson I continue to learn everyday. You’ve also taught me patience and to just enjoy the moment. So many people also told us to enjoy you when you were very small and that it goes by so fast. They were absolutely right.

Now here you are at one year old, such a big boy and showing us your personality. You love to climb stairs, throw things off the shelves and try to grab my only living plant. You are so brave and just take off walking even though you are still a little wobbly. You love sharing my food including string cheese and strawberry sundaes. You clap and yell “Yay”, flirt with ladies everywhere we go and love your older cousins so much. You are really good at imitating things and sounds and it makes me laugh so hard. I think I can make out you saying “Duck” and “Daddy” (hopefully “Mama” will be soon). You pretend cough and yell when you want to get someone’s attention. Those chubby cheeks and big eyes get a lot of attention everywhere you go. I love holding you before you go to bed because it’s the only time that you will cuddle. The best part of my day is when I pick you up after a long day at work. You always give me the biggest smiles. I spent so much time wanting you to get bigger and stronger because you were born so little. Now I just wish there was pause button because it’s just going by too fast. I try instead to enjoy today and just imagine what this next year will bring all of us.

Mikey, I am so proud of you already. I try and imagine what you will become or the things you will achieve. Daddy and I work hard everyday to make sure you have every opportunity available to you. Please remember that no matter how old you are, you will always be Mommy’s Baby Love.

Love,
Mommy

Grown don't mean nothing to a mother. A child is a child. They get bigger, older, but grown? What's that suppose to mean? In my heart it don't mean a thing. ~Toni Morrison, Beloved, 1987

Ticker Change

I guess since it's on Facebook, it's ok for me to announce here. Yolanda is expecting a little girl!!! Yay! I've changed the ticker to reflect a more girlie vibe. Bring on the tutu's, leggings, dresses and sparkly shoes!

And I also changed the background because it's Mikey's birthday month! Yay!
